This image of a Leopard Shark was captured during a visit to Julian Rocks Nguthungulli Nature Reserve in Byron Bay.

Leopard sharks are actually born with stripes, which morph into spots as they reach adulthood.

They are found throughout the Indo- Pacific Region but are currently classed as “Endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) “Red List of Threatened Species”.

As adults, they grow to approximately 2.5m in length. They are a docile shark which prey on crustacean. Their skin is a thick armour of teeth like formations call denticles.
